New Work: Turning a house into a home

It was such a pleasure to stage this sweet brick and tile 3 bedroom house.  Walking through the front door the polished floor boards seemed to radiate warmth and were a instant attraction.  The newly renovated neutral interior was the perfect backdrop for some fresh furnishings and I loved the open plan split level kitchen dining and lounge as it gave the space an interesting loft like appeal that set it apart from similar era brick and tile houses.

When  choosing the furnishings for this home I wanted to reference its 1950's background but bring it into the contemporary context of today.  I wanted the viewer to feel transported into a calm haven away from the busyness that can sometimes come with balancing home, work or family.  I tried to keep the palette neutral but used the on trend favourite of  green as my highlight colour in the lounge, transitioning to a fresh blue in the dining and bedroom areas.  The satisfying result was a serene space I didn't want to leave!   Although I love the chaos of my own home, the kids playing, the mess, the cooking the laundry always accumulating, I often find myself lingering in the homes I have staged.  I love spending at least a few moments soaking in the calm of a space soon to be filled with a life such as my own.
